OFFICE WORKOUT
October 2, 2015
Life is surely getting a little different when one advances in
age. We here at the office are currently
getting serious about joining the free office dance workout twice a week. Especially since attendance is checked, as part
of the GAD program. I even encouraged an
officemate who felt lazy attending one session that we should do it since the
Director stated during one of our one-on-one meetings on the availability of
funds that he is planning to buy some equipment for the LADIES (the ones who
religiously attend the exercises each week—well, to replace the ones damaged by
typhoon Haiyan two years ago). I doubt
if it’s because of us or because his wife so gamely joins us in the sessions. Hehe. Maybe
for the latter.
Anyway, it’s really fun for me to join these things since I really
loved to dance and I hate exercising (actually, since childhood). I liked hiking with my stepfather and my
grandpa when I was little, but I hate jogging and running and biking. I liked the calisthenics and arnis classes we
had in college PE, and even a college friends’ self-defense and martial arts
tutorials (which was a good outlet for all the teenage angst back then), but I
hate the individual and group games classes.
Best of all, I enjoy dancing because I get to do it with friends
(during neighbourhood fiesta ‘dis-korals’), classmates (when I was a student)
and officemates (when I started working) as a group. Sometimes there are costumes and props, and
there are plus points to extra-curricular activities. But I felt weird using the gym equipment
available in the office like the treadmill, the stationary bike and the bench
presses. Plus, I am not athletic so all
those tennis and badminton stuff do not work well with me. Well, maybe I just hate going to the gym.
